PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a chip varistor that appropriately maintains ESD withstand, while reducing the capacitance without providing an internal electrode.
SOLUTION : An element assembly 3 comprises a varistor part 7 and a support part 9. The varistor part 7 consists of a sintered body containing ZnO as a main component, and a rare-earth metal and Cu as a sub component, extends between a pair of end faces 3a and 3b of the element assembly 3 so as to connect to a terminal electrode 5, and manifests voltage nonlinear characteristics. The support part 9 consists of a sintered body containing ZnO as a main component, and Sr, Zr and Co as a sub component, and extends between the pair of the end faces 3a and 3b of the element assembly 3 so as to connect to the terminal electrode 5. The varistor part 7 and the support part 9 comprise main surfaces 7a, 7b, 9a and 9b extending between the pair of the end faces 3a and 3b of the element assembly 3 and connected to each other.
