PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an image forming apparatus that heats a fixing member by causing an electromagnetic induction heating layer provided on the fixing member to generate heat with a magnetic flux from an exciting coil, and heat-fixes an unfixed image on a sheet with the heated fixing member; and has improved accuracy for detecting short circuit of an exciting coil.
SOLUTION : When high-frequency current is superimposed on current that flows through an exciting coil 104 due to discharge that occurs when some windings of the exciting coil 104 are in a rare short circuit condition, an image forming apparatus extracts the superimposed high-frequency current with a filter 86, amplifies an extracted signal with an amplifier 87, compares the voltage of the amplified signal with a threshold for determining the occurrence of high-frequency current due to rare short circuit with a comparator 88, and thereby determines the occurrence of rare short circuit from the comparison result.
