PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a silicon nitride sintered compact in which the dispersion of assistant components is controlled even when a low grade low cost silicon nitride raw material is used and which is used as a rolling bearing having excellent workability in addition to the mechanical strength, the abrasion resistance and the rolling life characteristic equal to or more excellent than that of a conventional one, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION : The silicon nitride sintered compact contains ≤5 mass% rare earth element, ≤5 mass% Al element and ≤5 mass% at least one kind of element selected from a group comprising Ti, Zr, Hf, W, Mo, Ta, Nb and Cr as the sintering assistant components and has ≤1% porosity.
