PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To manufacture a yttria microparticle which can be utilized as a red phosphor and does not need a high-temperature treatment, and has a high crystallinity and a particle diameter of ≤100 nm, and in which a luminescence center metal ion is dissolved as a solid solution.
SOLUTION : A mixed aqueous solution of ions of a rare earth metal such as europium and yttrium ions is adjusted to a pH of ≥8 using an alkali aqueous solution, and hydrothermally reacted at 360 to 500°C in a short time to thereby manufacture a rare earth metal ion-dissolved yttria solid solution microparticle having a primary particle diameter of ≤100 nm and a high crystallinity degree.
