PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a glass substrate for hard disks excellent in impact resistance.
SOLUTION : The method for producing a glass substrate for hard disks includes : a polishing step of polishing a surface of a glass blank using an abrasive and a polishing pad; and a chemical strengthening step of strengthening the polished surface of the glass blank using a chemical strengthening treatment liquid after the polishing step, wherein a glass blank containing 0.02-1.0 mass% of cerium oxide is used as the glass blank, an abrasive having a cerium oxide content of 99 wt.% or more relative to the total rare earth oxides (TREO) and an alkaline earth metal content of 10 ppm or less is used as the abrasive, and a polishing pad having a cerium oxide content of 99 wt.% or more relative to the total rare earth oxides (TREO) and an alkaline earth metal content of 10 ppm or less is used as the polishing pad.
