PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for an information recording medium with higher impact resistance.
SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing the glass substrate for the information recording medium comprises steps of polishing a surface of a glass blank plate with polishing agent, and after the polishing step chemically strengthening the polished surface of the glass substrate plate with chemical strengthening liquid. The method uses the glass blank plate in composition that the total amount of SiO2, AL2O3, B2O3, Li2O, Na2O, K2O, ZrO2, CeO2, SiO2, Al2O3 and B2O3, the total amount of Li2O, Na2O and K2O, and the total amount of MgO, CaO, BaO, SrO and ZnO are predetermined values respectively, and the polishing agent containing rare earth oxide, 99 to 99.9999 mass% of CeO2 to the rare earth oxide content and 10 ppm or less of alkaline earth metal to the total amount of the polishing agent.
