The disclosed diffusion treatment for a heavy rare earth element RH has excellent mass production properties. The sintered magnet manufacturing method involves : a step for preparing an R-T-B sintered magnet; a step for preparing an RH diffusion source comprising at least one of a fluoride, an oxide, or an acid fluoride containing at least Dy or Tb; a step for charging into a treatment chamber the R-T-B sintered magnet and the RH diffusion source so as to be relatively moveable and capable of becoming close or of touching; and an RH diffusion treatment step for heating the R-T-B sintered magnet and the RH diffusion source to a treatment temperature of 800-950C while moving the R-T-B sintered magnet and the RH diffusion source continuously or intermittently inside the treatment chamber. |
