PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To inhibit deterioration of electron emission characteristics caused by increased lighting time of a lamp and to achieve long life of the lamp in an electrode (a negative electrode) for electron emission used for a lamp such as an Xe lamp for laser beams, an extra-high voltage mercury lamp for photo etching, etc. SOLUTION : The electrode for electron emission is composed of a high- melting point metallic alloy composed of at least one high-melting point metal selected from the group consisting of W, Mo, Nb, and Ta as a base material, wherein an emission material composed of at least one oxide selected from the group consisting of Th, Hf, Zr, and a rare-earth element is added.
