PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an electrode for water decomposition by light with high performance by suitably combining a p-type optical semiconductor not containing indium being a rare metal with an n-type optical semiconductor.
SOLUTION : In the electrode for water decomposition by light obtained by laminating the p-type semiconductor (20), the n-type semiconductor (30) and a reaction promoter (40) on a collection electrode (10) in order, the p-type semiconductor (20) is a compound consisting of Cu, Ga and a chalcogen element, the containing ratios of these elements satisfy Ga/Cu=1+2v and (chalcogen element)/Cu=2+3v (wherein, 0.5≤v≤2) and the n-type semiconductor (30) is ZnS.
