PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth magnet which can be formed by a simple method and has a protective layer having a superior electrical insulation property. SOLUTION : The preferred rare earth magnet 1 includes a magnet body 2 containing a metallic element including at least a rare earth element, and the protective layer 4 formed on the surface of the magnet body 2. The protective layer 4 has inorganic particles 14, and an inter-particle phase 24 including a compound of a metallic element that is equivalent to at least one type of a metallic element among metallic elements contained in the magnet body 2.
