PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for efficiently and inexpensively producing diaryl carbonate by causing diaryl oxalate to perform decarbonization reaction in the presence of a non-corrosive solid catalyst.
SOLUTION : In the method for producing diaryl carbonate, diaryl oxalate is caused to perform decarbonization reaction in the presence of (1) activated carbon, (2) a rare earth metal oxide and/or an amphoteric metal oxide or (3) a rare earth metal oxide and/or an amphoteric metal oxide carried on activated carbon. In the method for producing polycarbonate, the produced diphenyl carbonate and bisphenol A are caused to perform transesterification in the presence of an alkali metal compound and/or an alkaline-earth compound.
