PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an R-T-B based sintered magnet in which HcJ is improved without practical deterioration of Br by preventing heavy rare earth elements RH from diffusing in the inside of a main phase particle in the surface layer region of a sintered magnet body.
SOLUTION : This method of manufacturing the R-T-B based sintered magnet includes an RH supply process (A) to supply the heavy rare earth elements RH to a sintered magnet body 2 from an RH diffusing source 4 by heating both of the R-T-B based sintered magnet body 2 and the RH diffusing source 4 containing the heavy rare earth elements RH and simultaneously diffuse the heavy rare earth elements RH in the inside of the sintered magnet body 2, and an RH diffusing process (B) to interrupt and maintain supply of the heavy rare earth elements RH from the RH diffusing source 4 to the sintered magnet body 2 while maintaining the heated state of the sintered magnet body 2. The process (A) and the process (B) are repeated twice or more times.
