PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a compound which has highly efficient characteristics with chemical modification of cellulose main chain by means of cleaving β 1 and 4 glycosidic linkages, so that cellulose which is the most abundant biomass on the earth can be used effectively.
SOLUTION : The cellulose block copolymer expressed either by the structure of formula (1) in which an unsaturated monomer is grafted to the right terminal of cellulose or the structure in which an unsaturated monomer is grafted to the left terminal of cellulose, wherein R1 represents a group in which any one of hydrophilic monomer, hydrophobic monomer, or amphiphilic monomers is radically-polymerized, n1 and m1 each represent the natural number expressing the number of repeating units.
