简介 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a nickel hydrogen battery, having a large discharge capacity and a superior charging efficiency, and charging and discharging cycle performance in the operation under high temperatures. SOLUTION : This active material for the nickel electrode of an alkaline storage battery comprises core layer particles, formed mainly of nickel hydroxide and a surface layer formed mainly of the compound or composite compound of rare earth elements, covering the surface of the core particles. The compound or composite compound of the rare earth elements includes at least one among the elements erbium(Er), thulium(Tm), ytterbium(Yb), and lutetium(Lu). A refraction peak is provided at d=88 nm, d=84 nm, and d=76 nm in an X-ray diffraction diagram, having the Kα line of Co as a ray source.
