PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a barium iodide hydrate powder which is especially suitable as a raw material for a rare earth-activated barium fluoroiodide-based photostimulable phosphor and which does not contain phosphorus substantially and to provide its manufacturing method. ?SOLUTION : The barium iodide hydrate is expressed by the general formula; BaI2-nH2O (wherein, n is 1-2). The barium iodide hydrate powder contains phosphorus of 10 ppm or less.
