简介 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high-pressure mercury-free discharge lamp equipped with a start auxiliary conductor in which its top end is arranged close to a small-diameter cylinder, and constituted so that the size of gap between the internal surface of the small-diameter cylinder and the external surface of an electrode structure is arranged to improve startability. SOLUTION : The high-pressure discharge lamp is equipped with a translucent ceramics hermetic container 1 having a pair of small-diameter cylinder 1b communicating with an enclosure 1a, an electrode 2 supported by a current-introductory conductor 3 in the small-diameter cylinder to constitute the electrode structure EM with its top end put into the enclosure, an ionization medium containing a rare gas at the pressure of 0.1 to 10 atm and metal halide with a rare-earth metal, and essentially containing no mercury, and the start auxiliary conductor TW with its base end conducted to one electrode and its top end extended close to a region boundary to the enclosure of another small-diameter cylinder, and in proximity to the external surface. The internal diameter (mm) of the small-diameter cylinder opposite to another end of the start auxiliary conductor is denoted as DI, and a difference DI-DE (mm) from the external diameter (mm) of the electrode structure as DE.
