Disclosed is a permanent magnet which has a composition represented by the composition formula : R(FepMqCur(Co1-sAs)1-p-q-r)z (wherein R represents at least one element selected from rare earth elements; M represents at least one element selected from among Ti, Zr and Hf; A represents at least one element selected from among Ni, V, Cr, Mn, Al, Si, Ga, Nb, Ta and W; p satisfies 0.05 ≤ p ≤ 0.6; q satisfies 0.005 ≤ q ≤ 0.1; r satisfies 0.01 ≤ r ≤ 0.15; s satisfies 0 ≤ s ≤ 0.2; and z satisfies 4 ≤ z ≤ 9). The permanent magnet has a two-phase structure that is composed of a Th2Zn17 crystalline phase and a copper-rich phase. In a cross section of the permanent magnet comprising the crystal c-axis of the Th2Zn17 crystalline phase, the average distance between copper-rich phases is 120 nm or less. |
