PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide austenitic stainless steel which has excellent setting resistance, and is suitable as a metal gasket maintaining airtightness over a long period. SOLUTION : The austenitic stainless steel has a composition containing 0.02 to 0.20% C, 0.8 to 3.0% Si, =0.20(C+2N), and HVR value defined as HVR=C+2N+0.12Si+1.4Nb is controlled to >=0.45. The steel can contain one or more metals selected from <=2.0% Mo, <=3.0% Cu, <=0.5% Ti, <=0.2% Al, <=0.015% B, <=0.2% REM (rare earth elements), <=0.2% Y, <=0.1% Ca and <=0.10% Mg as well. |
