PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for leaching a rare earth element in which the extraction rate of iron reaches ≤10% even in the case the extraction rate of a rare earth element is set to ≥80%.
SOLUTION : When a rare earth element-Fe based alloy is roasted and is thereafter subjected to acid leaching treatment to leach the rare earth element, temperature is increased at a rate of ≤10°C/min till a roasting temperature of 500 to 1, 000°C, and the roasting is performed at the above roasting temperature for ≥0.5 hr, thus Fe in the rare earth element-Fe based alloy is made into an Fe oxide essentially consisting of Fe2O3, and next, by the acid leaching treatment, the rare earth element is leached.
