PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp for effectively restraining corrosion of an inside of a small-diameter part of a translucent ceramic airtight vessel, in one free from mercury sealing rare-earth metal halide. SOLUTION : The high-pressure discharge lamp is provided with a current-introducing conductor 3, airtightly inserted into a small-diameter part 1b of the translucent ceramic airtight vessel 1; an electrode 2 supported by the current-introducing conductor in the small-diameter part; and an ionized medium provided with a first halide contributing to light emission, including noble gas of 0.1 to 10 atmospheric pressure and the rare earth metal halide as well as a second halide contributing to forming of lamp voltage, with a ratio Md/Me of 0.5 or less, when a length of the inside of the small-diameter part is L, a weight per unit length of the first, as well as, the second halide adhered to an area of 0.35 L at a discharge space 1c side at lighting-off is Md, and a weight of the halide adhered to the rest of the area in the small-diameter part is Me, and substantially not containing mercury.
