PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal halide lamp of 100 W class or lower, which has a high color rendering and a high efficiency.
SOLUTION : The metal halide lamp has an arc tube of ceramic and its rated power is 35-100 W and color temperature is 2, 800-3, 700 K. A halogen additive is filled as a light-emitting substance. The halogen additive is composed of (1) cerium (Ce), (2) sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), (4) thallium (Tl), and (5) a rare-earth metal consisting of at least one out of disprosium (Dy), thulium (Tm), and holmium (Ho). The halogen additive is an iodide and in each of composition ratio of the halogen additives, 1.5-3 mol% or less cerium iodide is included, 45-90 mol% or less sodium iodide is included, 5-15 mol% or less calcium iodide is included, and 2-7 mol% or less thallium iodide is included.
