PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a novel manufacturing method that permits synthesis of a phosphor fine particle exhibiting high luminance while simplifying a manufacturing process.
SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing the phosphor particle comprises a step of feeding a powder of a metal sulfide into thermal plasma to cause it to pass through the thermal plasma, where the metal sulfide is zinc sulfide containing as dopants a metal element serving as a luminescence center and an element serving as a coactivator. Preferably, the metal element serving as the luminescence center is silver, copper, gold, manganese, iridium and rare earth elements and the element serving as the coactivator is a halogen.
