PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve efficiency of an optical amplifier without complicating a device configuration.SOLUTION : The optical amplifier includes : a semiconductor optical amplifier 100; and a rare earth doped optical fiber 200 having an absorption wavelength range including a wavelength range of amplified spontaneous emission light generated by the semiconductor optical amplifier 100. The semiconductor optical amplifier 100 and the rare earth doped optical fiber 200 are optically connected such that signal light amplified by the rare earth doped optical fiber 200 is input in the semiconductor optical amplifier 100 and the amplified spontaneous emission light generated by the semiconductor optical amplifier 100 is input as excitation light in the rare earth doped optical fiber 200.COPYRIGHT : (C)2011, JPO&INPIT |
