PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a titanate powder by which a fine titanate powder having a narrow particle size distribution can be obtained.
SOLUTION : The method for producing a titanate powder includes : a reaction step of obtaining surface-modified titanium oxide particles by at least partly converting the surfaces of titanium oxide particles to a titanate in a slurry of pH 11 or more comprising the titanium oxide particles, a water-soluble barium salt and water; and a firing step of obtaining a titanate powder by firing a raw powder comprising the surface-modified titanium oxide particles and at least one selected from the group consisting of a barium compound, a strontium compound, a calcium compound, a rare earth compound and a zirconium compound.
