PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for effectively separating and collecting individual metal elements from a raw material containing a plurality of rare metal elements such as rare earth elements, and to provide a separating device.
SOLUTION : The method for separating the metal element includes : the first heating step of heating the raw material containing the plurality of the metal elements in an atmosphere of chlorine, and volatilizing at least one metal element as a chloride from the raw material; and the second heating step of heating the raw material in an atmosphere of chlorine at a temperature higher than that in the first heating step and, volatilizing at least one metal element as a chloride from the raw material, after the first heating step. The separating device shall enable the method to be conducted.
