FIELD : manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE : invention relates to a method for producing a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst. Method includes the following steps : pre-forming a precursor microsphere comprising a non-zeolitic material comprising boehmite and a transition alumina; in situ crystallisation of zeolite Y on the preformed microsphere to provide a microsphere containing zeolite; adding a first portion of a phosphorus component to the microsphere containing zeolite to form a microsphere modified with a first phosphorus; adding a rare earth component to the microsphere modified with the first phosphorus to provide a microsphere containing a rare earth element; and adding a second portion of the phosphorus component to the preceding microsphere containing a rare earth element to provide a catalytic microsphere. Resulting FCC catalyst contains 5–25 wt% transition alumina, 20–65 wt% zeolite Y, and 1–5 wt% phosphorus oxide-based component; and zeolite is embedded in a non-zeolitic component.
EFFECT : catalyst can be used to crack hydrocarbon feedstock, especially from vacuum distillation, containing high levels of V and Ni, leading to lower yields of hydrogen and coke.
