PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an exhaust gas sensor for an internal combustion engine and a method for manufacturing the same suitable for ensuring a gas transmission function of a gas diffusion layer.
SOLUTION : The exhaust gas sensor for the internal combustion engine includes an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte 41, a measurement object gas electrode 42 installed on one side of the solid electrolyte 41, and a reference gas electrode 43 installed on the other side of the solid electrolyte 41, the measurement object gas electrode 42 being provided with a laminated air-fuel ratio sensor element 40 coated with the gas diffusion layer 44. The gas diffusion layer 44 of the air-fuel ratio sensor element 40 contains in addition to alumina at least one of components, Ca, Sr, Ba belonging to alkaline earth metal components, and La, Ce belonging to rare earth elements.
