PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain magnetic powder which prevents the surface texture or the durability of a magnetic tape from degrading as the magnetic particle powder becomes finer and is suitable for high-density magnetic recording.
SOLUTION : The magnetic powder is made of Fe-based particles, having at least one of oxides of Al, Si, and Ra (Ra represents at least one of rare earth elements including Y) on its surface. The magnetic powder has an average particle size of less than 70 nm, the number of basic sites of ≤0.85 sites/nm2, and the number of acid sites of ≤0.75 sites/nm2. A method of manufacturing the magnetic powder and a magnetic recording medium are obtained.
