PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To suppress the occurrence of a crack leak of an electrode sealing portion, in a metal halide lamp essentially not including mercury. SOLUTION : In this metal halide lamp, a discharge medium not containing at least a metal halide of scandium or a rare gas and essentially not containing mercury is sealed in a discharge space 12 of a translucent airtight vessel 1 having a light emission tube part 11 forming the discharge space 12 and sealing parts 131, 132 formed in both the ends of the light emission tube part 11. The sealing parts 131, 132 are oppositely disposed with a pair of electrodes 31, 32 formed of a thoriated tungsten material in a state that one-side ends are kept with prescribed inter-electrode distance inside the discharge space 12, the other ends are sealed in the sealing parts 131, 132, and the lamp is lighted by power exceeding power in time of stable lighting when starting the lamp. The lamp has a temperature control configuration for suppressing white turbidity generation of the electrode portions 31, 32 sealed in the sealing parts 131, 132. COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI |
