PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a polymer emulsion excellent in polymerization stability and mechanical stability as well as water resistance of a coating film.
SOLUTION : A monomer is subjected to emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polyglyceryl ether composition in the method for producing a polymer emulsion. The polyglyceryl ether composition is prepared by reacting glycidol and an alcohol component that contains a total amount of a 12C aliphatic alcohol (a1) and an 8-18C (excluding 12C) aliphatic alcohol of 90 mass% or more, wherein the mass ratio [(a1)/(b1)] of the aliphatic alcohol (a1) to the aliphatic alcohol (b1) is from 60/40 to 99/1, in the presence of a compound of a rare-earth element.
