PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of synthesizing methanol in a liquid phase which reduces the degree of deterioration in activity even when a small amount of water, carbon dioxide and the like exists in the manufacturing raw materials to stably obtain methanol at low temperatures and low pressures in a continuous reaction.
SOLUTION : The method for producing methanol comprises reacting a raw material gas including either carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide and hydrogen and the raw material gas is subjected to reaction under the condition that an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal in a homogeneous catalyst is present in a solvent at a concentration of not lower than 0.5 mol/L to obtain methanol.
