PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for forming a multilayer coating film as an alternative of a conventional method, which can eliminate a conventional complicated and expensive rust-preventing chemical conversion treatment process, for instance, a zinc phosphate treatment process and the like, further can impart rust-preventing properties equal to or more excellent than those by a conventional rust-preventing chemical conversion treatment process to the coating film, furthermore which are suitable for a real corrosive environment, and is superior in economical efficiency.
SOLUTION : The method for forming the multilayer coating film includes the steps of : (a) immersing an untreated metallic substrate into an aqueous solution containing a nitrate of a rare earth metal, a zinc salt and a nickel salt, and cathodically electrolyzing the substrate to form an electrolysis film containing a rare earth metal, zinc and nickel on the metallic substrate; and (b) immersing the metallic substrate on which the electrolysis film is formed in the step (a) into an electrodeposition paint, and forming an electrodeposition paint film by electrodeposition coating.
