PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical fiber for optical amplification having a large coefficient of absorption and being suitable to the optical amplification in a wide wavelength band. SOLUTION : A DSC type refractive index profile is obtained by arranging a first core part 11; a second core part 12 which is arranged on the outer peripheral side of the first core part 11 and whose refractive index is smaller than that of the first core part 11; and a clad part 5 which is arranged on the outer peripheral side of the second core part 12 and whose refractive index is smaller than that of the second core part 12. The refractive index distribution of the first core part 11 is made to be an α distribution type profile.
