PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an amplifying optical fiber that is highly doped with a rare earth and is used at high optical power without damaging a fiber.
SOLUTION : This amplifying optical fiber includes a central core (10) suitable for transmitting and amplifying an optical signal, and an optical cladding (11) surrounding the central core and suitable for confining the optical signal transmitted in the core. The central core is formed from a main matrix that includes nanoparticles (5) doped with a rare earth. The weight concentration of the rare earth dopants in each nanoparticle is between 1 wt.% and 20 wt.%, and the concentration of the nanoparticles in the main matrix of the central core is between 0.05 vol.% and 1 vol.%. Such an optical fiber incorporates rare earth ions at a high concentration while avoiding the phenomenon of photo-darkening at high transmission power.
