PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alumina sintered body for a spark plug and a method for manufacturing the same for improving mechanical strength, the spark plug having an alumina-based sintered body for the spark plug and a method for manufacturing the same.
SOLUTION : The alumina sintered body for the spark plug includes alumina, rare earth oxide and metal oxide included in a sintering aid. The alumina sintered body for the spark plug includes the alumina by 90-98 mass%, the rare earth oxide by 0.2-4 mass% and the metal oxide included in the sintering aid in a residual part, and is 5 μm or less in an average particle size of a non-vitreous material in a grain boundary, and is 10 μm or less in the maximum particle size. The alumina by 90-98 mass%, the rare earth oxide by 0.2-4 mass%, and the sintering aid as the residual part having the average particle size of 0.5 μm≤D50≤2 μm are sintered.
