PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a low cost method of manufacturing a permanent magnet which can reduce the processing temperature and can prolong the lifetime of a fixing jig or a processing box used in a processing chamber, when storing an iron-boron-rare earth based sintered magnets and a volatile material v, containing at least one of Dy and Tb in the processing chamber to be heated to disperse Dy and Tb in the grain boundaries and/or grain boundary phase of the sintered magnet, in order to obtain a high-quality permanent magnet.
SOLUTION : As the volatile material v, terbium bromide or dysprosium bromide is used. Then, inside the processing chamber 70, while an iron-boron-rare earth based sintered magnet S is disposed to be heated to a predetermined temperature, and the volatile material disposed in the same or other processing chamber is vaporized. The vaporized terbium bromide or dysprosium bromide is attached to the surface of the sintered permanent magnet by adjusting the amount of supply, and is dispersed in the grain boundaries and/or grain boundary phase of the sintered magnet.
