PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a cold cathode discharge lamp, capable of reducing lamp voltage and improving dark start-up characteristic while suppressing coloring of an end portion of a light emitting tube, and to provide a lighting system and an image display device, capable of improving start-up characteristic while reducing power consumption.
SOLUTION : The cold cathode discharge lamp 100 includes a light emitting tube 101, an electrode 102 provided within the light emitting tube 101, an electron emission material layer 103 provided on a surface of the electrode 102, and a cesium compound 104 provided directly or indirectly on the surface of the electrode 102. The electron emission material layer 103 includes a rare earth element, and the cesium compound 104 has a melting point of 1, 000°C or lower.
