PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical element which includes optical characteristics of a high refractivity and low scattering.
SOLUTION : The optical element is obtained by vacuum sintering a mold of ceramic particles consisting of LnxAlyO[x+y]×1.5 having an average particle diameter of 1 μm or larger but 10 μm or smaller, where Ln is a rare earth group element, x satisfies 1≤x≤10, and y satisfies 1≤y≤5. It is desirable that Ln is at least one or more kinds selected from among Y, La, Gd, Yb, and Lu. This optical element desirably includes a transmissivity with a refractivity of 1.8 or larger. Further, it is desirable that the ceramic particles are spherical.
