PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To achieve long life improvement of a spark plug which uses a rare-metal chip member at a part of spark discharge.
SOLUTION : The spark plug includes a central electrode extending through an axis direction of the spark plug and a grounded electrode forming a spark gap between the central electrode and the same. At least either the central electrode or the grounded electrode includes an electrode matrix, a rare-metal chip member, and a medium member with its first face in contact with the rare-metal chip member and a second face which is the opposite side of the first face in contact with the electrode matrix, as well as a laser-melted part formed on the side face of the rare-metal chip member and the medium member formed by laser welding at least a portion of an outer rim of a contact part of the rare-metal chip member and the medium member. At least a portion of the laser melted part is embedded in the electrode matrix.
