PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a small reel of an optical fiber.
SOLUTION : The optical fiber reel 10 includes a flat base plate 12 having a first surface 26 and a second surface 28 opposite to it, a first projection 22 formed on the first surface 26 of the base plate 12, a second projection formed on the second surface 28 of the base plate 12, and a through hole 34 penetrating the first and second surfaces 26, 28 through the base plate 12. When a rare earth elements doped optical fiber 108 is contained, a part of the optical fiber 108 is spirally wound around the first projection 22 on the first surface 26, and the other part of the optical fiber 108 is spirally wound around the second projection on the second surface 28, and a portion of the fiber 108 between the portions wound around the first surface 26 and the second surface 28 is inserted into the through hole 34.
