PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fuel cell and a separator therefor formed of titanium or a titanium alloy with excellent corrosion resistivity, high adherence to noble-metal layers, low contact resistance, and excellent productivity.
SOLUTION : The separator for the fuel cell includes a noble-metal layer with a thickness not smaller than 2 nm, containing more than one kind of rare metals selected from at least Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt and Au, on the surface of a substrate formed of titanium or the titanium alloy. A titanium-oxide layer containing at least either of a rutile-type crystal or a brookite-type crystal is formed at least in either of the portion between the noble-metal layer and the substrate, or on the exposed surface of the substrate.
