PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a spark plug capable of surely joining a ground electrode and an electrode chip, and capable of suppressing the occurrence of oxidative corrosion in a melting part formed therebetween.
SOLUTION : The electrode chip 70 installed at the ground electrode 30 is configured by joining the main body part 71 consisting of rare metal or rare metal alloy, and a chip retaining part 76 composed of Ni or Ni alloy. The molten part 81 formed by the bonding is housed in a recess part 35 of the ground electrode 30, and not exposed to the outside. Moreover, joining of the ground electrode 30 and the electrode chip 70 is carried out by the molten part 83 formed between the ground electrode 30 and the chip retaining part 76. Because of this, the molten part 81 containing a component of the chip body part 71, that is, the rare metal component is not exposed to the outside air, and the occurrence of oxidative corrosion can be suppressed.
