PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a double-pipe type rare-gas discharge lamp in which a positional relationship between a rare-gas discharge lamp and an external pipe is reliably maintained, and distal openings of the external pipe are readily blocked, and to provide a method of manufacturing double-pipe type lamp that provides high yield and high productivity.
SOLUTION : The double-pipe type rare-gas discharge lamp includes : a rare-gas discharge lamp 10 formed of an elongated glass pipe having a pair of external electrodes 12; and caps for blocking a translucent insulating cylinder as an external pipe that houses the entire rare-gas discharge lamp in a substantially hermetically sealed state and distal openings thereof, wherein the caps are formed of a resin molded to include the translucent insulating cylinder and ends of the lamp. The method includes the steps of : disposing a ring-shaped seal member at the ends of the lamp; housing the lamp into the translucent insulating cylinder; and forming the caps by molding the resin at the ends of a body structure comprising a combination of the translucent insulating cylinder and rare-gas discharge lamp.
