PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal halide lamp having a color temperature of 6, 000°K or more, with light emission efficiency improved, and with visibility enhanced at bad weather such as rain.
SOLUTION : Mercury, buffer gas and gadolinium halide by 5% or more and 60% or less to a sum total of metal halide, at least one or more of halides of rare-earth metals including cerium, neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, holmium, thulium and lutetium, and that, sodium halide by less than 25% to the sum total of the metal halide are to be contained in an arc tube made of quartz glass equipped with a pair of electrodes.
