PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp capable of preventing electrode members from wearing and deforming, and an airtight vessel from blacking and devitrifying without using environmental pollutants.
SOLUTION : A high-pressure discharge lamp 11 comprises an airtight vessel 12 made of UV-transmitting materials, at least a noble gas being sealed therein, the airtight vessel 12 including two coiled-coil electrodes disposed respectively on both ends so as to include respective end portions, wherein at least one of the two coiled-coil electrodes 13 comprises an electrode member 131 which contains tungsten as a base material and an emitter material containing at least one or more oxide rare earth element equivalent to 0.5 to 5.0 vol.% expressed in terms of the quantity of metal simple substances of the rare earth elements.
