PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To enhance the cleaning performance of NOx in the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine mounted with a lean burn engine. SOLUTION : The exhaust gas cleaning catalyst of the internal combustion engine of a lean burn type having the NOx cleaning catalyst in an exhaust system chemically adsorbs the NOx and reduces the NOx to N2 when the air fuel ratio in the exhaust gases is lean. The catalyst reduces and cleans the chemically adsorbed NOx to N2 when the air-fuel ratio is rich or stoichiometric, The catalyst has a porous carrier and catalyst active components deposited on the carrier and includes at least one of Rh, Pt and Pd, K, Ti, Mn and at least one of rare earth metals. |
