PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkaline storage battery in which a cathode and an anode of an alkaline storage battery are improved and a preservation property in a charging state is improved and a rise of the inner pressure of the battery in excess discharging can be prevented.
SOLUTION : The alkaline storage battery includes a cathode 1, an anode 2 using a hydrogen storing alloy, a separator 3 arranged between the cathode and the anode, and an alkaline electrolyte solution. The cathode contains nickel hydroxide powder of which at least a part of the surface is covered by higher-grade cobalt oxide exceeding bivalence, and the anode contains Co and a hydrogen storing alloy as shown in a general formula Ln1-xMgxNia-b-cAlbZc, and a fluorine resin, and in the formula, Ln is at least one kind of elements selected from rare earth element including Y and Zr, and Z is at least one kind of elements selected from V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, Fe, Ga, Zn, Sn, In, Cu, Si, P and B, and x, a, b, c satisfy the following conditions, 0.05≤x≤0.30, 2.8≤a≤3.9, 0.05≤b≤0.25, 0.00≤c≤0.25.
