PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a lamp unit in which insulation breakdown between an electrode and a trigger member, before lighting start of a lamp is suppressed and flash lighting can surely be performed.
SOLUTION : Rare gas is filled as a light-emitting gas in an arc tube 25 of a rod shape, and a pair of electrodes 23, 24 are arranged opposed to each other. A trigger member 3 is installed at the outside of the arc tube 25. The trigger member 3 is constructed of a trigger tube 31 of a straight tube-shape consisting of a member having dielectric performance, such as, quartz glass and a conductor 34 installed in the trigger tube 31. The length of the conductor 34, that is, the length on a region of space portion between the electrodes, is shorter than the length L1 between the electrodes; , and as a result of this, insulation breakdown between the electrodes 23, 24 and the trigger member 3 before lighting of the lamp 2 can be suppressed. Furthermore, since the conductor 34 is installed in the trigger tube 31 having dielectric performance, the lamp can be surely lighted by impressing a voltage on the conductor 34.
