PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method fcapable of efficiently recovering rare metals by utilizing a mechanic-chemical reaction and being put to practical use. SOLUTION : Rare metal oxide powder is reacted with silicon powder under non-oxigen atmosphere to obtain the rare metals and silicon oxide. As the rare metals, indium, tin, antimony or the like can be recovered. It is preferable that the reaction of the rare metal oxide powder and the silicon powder is performed under pressurization while being mechanically agitated.
