PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical fiber for a fiber laser, capable of obtaining a high output for laser light, by preventing a rise in temperature of an optical fiber in the fiber laser.
SOLUTION : The optical fiber 1 for the fiber laser is provided with a rare-earth-doped core 2 added with a rare-earth element, and a clad 3 formed around the rare-earth-doped core 2, wherein an excitation light Le is incident into the clad 3 to excite the rare-earth element and high-output laser oscillation light L is outputted. In the optical fiber 1, the rare-earth-doped core 2 has an outer dimension ratio different in the longitudinal direction from that of the clad 3.
